This pre-conference session will cover important aspects of assessing and supporting individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities particularly in relation to addressing severe aggressive behavior. The information will go beyond basic functional assessment tools to cover environmental assessment measures and the ability of the individual to pursue their values and goals. A set of what we call “measures of well-being” will be reviewed along with their impact on those that we serve and their effects on severe aggressive behavior.
This pre-conference session will focus not just on the key components of person-centered planning, but also the culture and values that are necessary to bring the planning to life so that people truly live the lives they want to live. Person-centered planning is not about the paper, it is about people. This session will offer practical approaches and opportunities for interaction and problem solving, going beyond just theoretical concepts.
