Job Title: Assistant Vice President of Residential Services

Location:  El Cajon, CA

Primary Purpose: The Assistant Vice President of Residential Services will serve as a critical member of
the Residential Management Team. Assisting the Vice President of Residential in direction, supervision,
compliance, efficiency, budget compliance and operations of all Residential settings and supports.
The Assistant Vice President of Residential Services may be responsible for initiating and/or managing
new and expanded services to meet the needs of our community in order for HGH to continue to
fulfill our mission… To Improve The Lives Of Those We Serve.

1. Supports the Mission, Values and Vision of the Agency.
2. Is knowledgeable of client rights and ensures an atmosphere which allows for the privacy,
dignity and well-being of all clients in a safe, secure environment.
3. Supports, cooperates with, and implements specific procedures and programs for:
• Safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established
fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/or correct unsafe
working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs.
• Confidentiality of all data, including client, employee and operations data.
• Compliance with all regulatory requirements.
• Compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from sexual
harassment and all illegal and discriminatory behavior.
4. Supports and participates in common teamwork:
• Cooperates and works together with all co-workers; plans and complete job duties with
minimal supervisory direction, including appropriate judgment.
• Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations.
• Follows-up, as appropriate, with supervisor, co-workers or clients regarding reported
complaints, problems and concerns.
• Promotes positive public relations with clients, family members, guests, and government
• Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, dress codes,
including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned.
• Use computer software for documentation and communication

Responsible for a variety of duties that include but are not limited to:
 Supports the Mission, Values, and Vision of the Home of Guiding Hands.
 Ensures compliance with all state and federal regulations and agency policies and
procedures relative to the operation of ICF/DD-H, ICF/DD-N and CCL adult, children and
deflection residential facilities.
 Conducts and participates in staff meetings, client reviews, and monthly in-service training,
Human Rights Committee meetings and administrative meetings.
 Is knowledgeable of client rights and ensures an atmosphere which allows for the
privacy, dignity, and well-being of all clients in a safe, secure environment.
 Deploy resources efficiently and effectively toward organizational goals working with staff to
balance workload and effort and provide ongoing feedback so that key staff can continually
improve their management, supervision and mentoring skills.
 Provides management, oversight, supervision, and direction for Residential, Nursing and
affiliated support services and consultants. This includes program development activities.
 Provides direct supervision and oversight, as assigned, to any newly developed programs
and/or services.
 Participates in the quality assurance program, ensuring quality service delivery at all homes.
 Assists in the development of and suggests new policies and procedures as needed.
 Mentor direct reports and develop future organizational leaders, including hiring, firing and
training employees, assigning and directing work, addressing complaints and resolving
 Develop, improve and monitor financial performance and benchmarks for programs.
 Liaison with outside entities including – San Diego Regional Center, Department of
Developmental Services, California Department of Health Care Services, Public Schools,
Physicians, etc.
 Interacts with, and is an active partner/participant with parents and family members of
individuals receiving services and supports from HGH.
 Facilitates new client referrals through the admission process.
 Participates as a member of the emergency management team.
 Routinely updates own knowledge about research in the field and best practices.
 Performs other duties as assigned and required.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare, Business or related field.
Experience: 10 years’ experience with progressive management and supervisory responsibility; or 5
years senior-level supervisory and operations experience in the field of developmental disabilities with
extensive knowledge of Title 42, Title 17, Title 22 and CDPH Rules and regulations. Certifiable as a
Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional preferred.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions: The physical demands described here are representative of
those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to
finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance;
stoop; kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, see and hear. May be required to lift up to 25 pounds on a
regular basis and 50 pounds or more on an infrequent basis. This position requires an individual to
work from an HGH physical location on a regular basis.
 This is a management level position that requires experience working with a variety of staff,
employees, donors, funders and regulators entities. Knowledge of local, state, and federal
programs supporting individuals with developmental disabilities is essential.
 Must possess valid CA driver’s license
 Must have an acceptable driving record and provide proof of insurability of personal vehicle
 Must be available to work a varied schedule to include night and weekend work
 Must maintain the confidentiality of client’s PHI (Protected Health Information) used for
treatment, payment, health care, etc. Access to confidential information and PHI (Protected
Health Information) is limited to a legitimate business need to know only basis
 Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Microsoft Outlook.

Other Conditions of Employment:
• Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol test within 24 hours of a job offer.
• Must pass a pre-employment health screening/TB Test; and annually thereafter.
• Have a criminal records clearance from DHS and/or DSS (Live Scan fingerprinting).
• Must possess a valid California driver’s license, proof of safe driving record (current DMV
report required), and have 24 months of licensed driving experience.
• Must pass vehicle transportation training and an “observed” road test annually.
• Must complete all other required new hire training including CPR/First Aid.
• Must maintain confidentiality of client Protected Health Information (PHI)
• used for treatment, payment, health care, etc. and personal information of clients.
